Evenstar & Eowyn had good taste.

I've always told my husband not to bother buying me jewelry for Valentine's Days and anniversaries, and that the money would be better spent on swords.  Seriously, I think if he ever shells out more than double-digits on a piece of jewelry, I'm returning it and buying myself a claymore.  I'm just not a fine-jewelry type of girl.  (And I'd like to note, he's been very considerate of my rule, and did, in fact, actually buy me a two-foot-long small sword for our fifth anniversary, which I loved.)

But I asked him to break my rule this year.  Because I found these:

Eowyn's necklace and Arwen's Evenstar pendant from "Lord of the Rings".

I recently stumbled upon Silverinestore, a lovely little Canada-based Etsy shop that sells very affordable "Lord of the Rings"/"Hobbit" replica jewelry, among other things.  After drooling over these two in particular for a couple days, I half-jokingly asked my husband if he wanted to buy me jewelry for Valentine's Day for a change.  He not-jokingly asked me how to place the order (he'd never used Etsy).  Needless to say, I was happy to help him with that part!

I'm a bit of a Tolkien fan.  I mean, even though it's been a while since I've read the books, my daughter's middle name is Eowyn, and I think I remember more of the Sindarin Elvish I taught myself in high school than the Spanish I learned in college.  I'd always planned on eventually getting an Evenstar pendant, because, really, what female fan of the movies doesn't want to own one (even if I have no idea what to ever, ever wear it with)?  This seller offers three different versions of the Evenstar pendant--one pendant with matching earrings, two just necklaces--at different price points, and I went with this one, and I'm thrilled with the quality of the piece.

Now, if they'd just had the Evenstar pendant, I probably would have added it to my favorites and moved on...but then I saw the Eowyn necklace.  Isn't it just lovely?  It's a touch more rose gold than the pictures let on (at least on my screen), but it's just like the one she wore in "The Two Towers".  And since it's not as highly recognizable as the Evenstar pendant, I feel like I can actually wear it in public without drawing the attention of anyone but fellow fans...to anyone else, it's just a pretty necklace!  Of course, I also have a dream of someday cosplaying as Eowyn, since she's my favorite character in the series, so I'll get to wear it then, too. :-)

Both of these necklaces were well worth breaking my buy-me-no-jewelry rule.  Though maybe next year, I'll find a way to talk him into getting me Sting... ;-)
